A MATTER OF WORDS?

Training versus Clases.

For many years, I’ve chosen the words “train” or “practice” to name the workshops I lead, aiming to define in advance a form of communicative encounter. We know that often, both organizers and participants in a tango class are seeking “entertainment.” In the encounters I organize, that is not the main goal…
On the contrary, what is essential is the commitment to the search, taking responsibility for the learning process. Challenging paradigms, limits, and habits is part of the proposal. And this doesn’t happen in the apparent comfort of distraction; it requires a lot of effort and dedication.
Revisiting the subject, rethinking oneself, and building through that exercise: if this interaction doesn’t occur, if that’s not what “entertains,” the process I propose in my training isn’t possible. And that’s okay; it simply means we can’t interact with everyone on the intimate path, as simple as that sounds.
These encounters are built together. And for everything else, there are other types of tango proposals and classes around the world, many of them.
